Metal Thread and Bead Medallion
I have come to the Bead Society from my embroidery background. I like to embellish my embroideries with beadwork. This medallion is a fairly simple introductory metal thread work project that could be used as a box top, jewellery or whatever you like.
In this class, learn to apply kid leather over padding, basic couching thread method, cutting and applying Gold Smooth Purl, filling in with Gold Check Purl chipping and applying Pearl Purl.
Saturday 6th July – 9.30am to 4.00pm with a 30 minute lunch break
The project will not be completed in class, detailed instructions will be provided to allow for completion at home.
SKILL LEVEL: basic knowledge of bead embroidery and peyote stitch would be helpful, but not essential.
TECHNIQUES: Metal threadwork bead embroidery.
KITS: $10 for partial kit – Will include couching thread, Smooth Purl Thread, Check Purl thread, Pearl Purl Wire, felt padding
and notes. Also bring supplies as below.

Requirements list:
- Bring your own bead supply – I have used #11 Gold lined clear Delica beads, Gold plated Iris #15
beads, pearl lined seed beads #11. - Guterman Polyester thread colour 968 (dark yellow)
Students also need to bring the following to class:
- Beading needles appropriate for bead size. Embroidery needle size 9 or 10.
- Scissors for threads
- Scissors with fine point suitable for cutting metal threads. I will have spares to borrow.
- Pin cushion, bead mat, etc.
