Project name: Pearl Knotting
Description: Learn the fine art of traditional Pearl knotting. Showcase your precious pearls and finish them to the standard of a high-end jewellery boutique. In this class Sue will guide you on how to knot Freshwater Pearls using Griffin “no stretch” Nylon Power Thread, with an attached needle. You will also learn to connect your clasp with French Wire for a secure and professional finish.
Skill Level: No previous experience with Pearl knotting required.
Kit: Partial Kit Mandatory $5
Kit includes – Griffin Thread, French Wire and sample testing thread
Pearls can be purchased directly from Sue if required. Pearl order must be placed with Sue prior to the class. Price will vary depending upon choice – please contact Sue on 0409 533 776 to discuss.
Payment by Cash on the day or Bank Deposit beforehand.
Requirements list:
Freshwater Pearls approx. 8-10mm size, length dependant on necklace or bracelet requirement.
Note: Glass pearls are not suitable for this project.
Clasp of your choice.
Students should also bring the following supplies to class.
- Bead mat
- Craft knife
- Tweezers
- Flat nose pliers
- Clear Nail Polish
- Light and/or magnification (if required)
Note: Retail Fresh Water Pearls are 38-40cm long. Knots add approximately 2cm to the Length + the chosen clasp. Final length of piece will be between 41-44cm. Please let Sue know the desired length of your finished piece.
