Xmas Lantern - Glenda MacNaughton - 6 Hour Class over 2 x 3 hour sessions
KIT: N/A. Requirements list provided
LEVEL: This is not a project for beginning beaders. Some experience of bead weaving is strongly recommended.
‘Xmas lantern’ was inspired by traditional Christmas tree ornaments from Europe in the mid-1800s. Creating the ornament is a great opportunity to expand your skills in creating 3D beaded items using peyote stitch and there’s plenty of time before Xmas to have some of these ready for your Xmas tree or as gifts for others.
Several components are made individually and then joined together to create the ornament. In session one we will focus on the techniques for making each of the base components. You will be asked to have these components completed prior to the second session.
In session two we will focus on techniques for joining the components together and embellishing the lantern. Several options for the embellishments will be explored.
The completed ornament is approximately 7 cm high and 5.5. cm wide when completed.
TECHNIQUES: Basic knowledge of Peyote stitch is assumed. The following techniques are used: circular, flat stitch Peyote stitch, odd-count flat Peyote stitch, zipping up a Peyote tube, embellishing peyote stitch.
REQUIREMENTS LIST: A complete requirements list will be supplied as a downloadable PDF once payment completed.
